PTSD Healing Thought of the Week: Doing What is Familiar

PTSD Healing Thought of the Week: Doing What is Familiar

Today, I’m reading a book that references Virginia Satir, a very famous psychiatrist. This quote struck me as so spot-on accurate I just have to share it with you: The will to survive is not the strongest instinct in human beings. The strongest instinct in human beings is to do what is familiar. Whoa. When PTSD persists and keeping yourself safe becomes familiar, imagine how that instinct and those habits can block recovery. What are you doing because it’s familiar and safe that may be stalling your ability to move forward toward healing? It is possible to conquer the past and create the future — the first step is choosing to take the journey.  Want a little daily PTSD healing inspiration?
