I often encourage my community to share their stories as it can be great for the healing process. But, sharing you story doesn’t mean disclosing your identity. That can be really difficult for some because who wants the world to know they suffer from a mental illness? If you do, it may subject you to mistreatment in many forms. It is such a travesty that our society has labeled mental illness as something that someone “is” as opposed to something that someone “lives with” and that we have to hide our struggles.
Imagine how rewarding it would be if we were able to say “I suffer from XYZ” and the response would be “That’s ok. We welcome you to our company/group/family.” Instead, we suffer from discrimination, intolerance, and being devalued both professionally and personally. Well, it’s time it stops! It’s time that those of us who are suffering or those of us that have healed from mental illness Stand Up and promote knowledge and understanding throughout society. And, that is exactly what HealthyPlace.com Founder and President of Gary Koplin has chosen to do.
Recently, Gary started the “Stand Up For Mental Health” campaign to bring an end to the stigma behind mental health. The campaign is in full swing and we will be discussing what you can do to support the campaign. Together, we can change the way the world thinks about mental illness. Then…
