Recently I received an email from Christina Carmona, director of the “Lasting Memory” documentary. She wrote,
Edwin Diaz, the person I interviewed [for the film], is my father and I have seen his struggle throughout my life, so it means a lot to be able to share his story. I support all of what you and others do to help support those with PTSD.
What’s the movie about?
Lasting Memory is part of a documentary web series called “The Life Lense” that focus’ on individuals with different struggles in their lives, how they learn to live with them, and work to overcome them. This particular episode “Lasting Memory”, is about one man’s struggle to overcome his PTSD.
What inspired you to make this movie?
The inspiration to make this documentary series was to shed some light on real life struggles that many people deal with daily and the strength behind the individuals that fight against these odds.
What do you hope the movie will achieve?
I would hope that “The Life Lense” series will help educate people and give them a better understanding of struggles like PTSD and how many it really does affect all over the world. These issues don’t just affect the individuals themselves, but their families as well.
How did making this film impact your relationship with your dad and your understanding of his journey?
Starting the series with “Lasting Memory” was very special to me. Sharing my father’s story with the world was something I knew I wanted to do. I have always known my father struggled with his memories of Vietnam, but putting him in front of a camera and having him tell it that way, felt different. He has always been a hero in my eyes, but his strength and dedication to living well for himself and family really showed through. I can never imagine what it feels like to be him, but I know that I am grateful to have him here with me today. If he can fight through that, I feel I can fight through anything.
