How To Use Your Breath To Heal

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012 • Michele's Radio Show, PTSD Recovery Tips

Recently I taught a de-stress class. We covered a slew of tools and tips that the class members practiced and started to plan how to implement in their lives. (One of the key elements in controlling stress, you know, is the actions you take. If you learn a bunch of things and then neglect to do them despite how tough it is your stress level will probably increase because in addition to the stressor there will be the voice in your head berating you for knowing things to do and not doing them!).

One of the things we practiced was breathwork. The difference in the feeling of each person in the class, plus the collective energy was astonishing. Why does controlling breathing bring about such immediate results? Dr. Patricia Gerbarg, my guest this week on YOUR LIFE AFTER TRAUMA is the co-author of THE HEALING POWER OF THE BREATH. In the book she writes,

… feedback from the body has powerful effects on how the brain works, what we feel, what we think, how we interpret what is going on, our perceptions, the decisions we make, and how we resopnd emotionally and physically to everything we experience.

Wow, that’s a whole lot of impact for something that’s FREE and you’re already doing it anyway! To learn more about this, plus how you can do it, tune in to today’s show:
