PTSD Healing Thought of the Week: How To Begin
Sunday, April 1st, 2012 • PTSD Healing Thought of the Week •
After my trauma I developed thoughts, beliefs and perceptions that I felt were accurate. Then, for a very, very long time I refused to change how I saw myself, the world and others around me. I saw danger all the time. I held myself hostage for how I had or had not behaved during my trauma. I chose not to think about the sheer neglect enacted by the person who, albeit unwittingly, caused my trauma.
And then I entered a phase of recovery where all of that changed. By the end of writing my PTSD recovery memoir, I realized I believe this:
While healing is not as simple as turning your gaze it begins with a willingness to do so.
If you were to turn your gaze just the tiniest bit, how different would your perspective be?
You have enormous healing potential, the goal is learning to access it. Dig deep. You can do this. I believe in you!
