PTSD Healing Thought of the Week: Take a Trip
Sunday, August 29th, 2010 • PTSD Healing Thought of the Week •
After a while, your environment can become so familiar it reflects your state of mind. Sometimes, you just need to get out of Dodge.
Tip #9: Take a trip
When just looking out your window or moving through your home reminds you of how PTSD makes you feel, that’s a clue it’s time to see something different. An especially stressful date or time of year is the perfect excuse to take yourself someplace new.
Whether it’s for a day, a week, a month (or the rest of your life!) using a particular date for inspiration to take action is a great way to self-empower recovery. A few ideas:
1 – drive an hour or two from home to a place you’ve never been before
2 – hop on the train for a ride hands-free excursion
3 – ride the bus to a place you’ve always wanted to go but haven’t
4 – jet off to a fantasy relaxation destination
Whatever your budget there’s a way for you to take yourself away and out of the PTSD moment. Adventure is a great distraction. Seeing something new can give you an entirely fresh perspective on your whole life.
