PTSD Healing Thought of the Week: Handling Stress

Sunday, August 1st, 2010 • PTSD Healing Thought of the Week

Last week I did a terrific interview with Paul Radkowski (which you can listen to here) about the correlation between trauma and paul-radkowski1addiction. Paul was full of fabulous information and I learned a lot about how to define trauma, addiction and approach recovery.

One of the comments he made struck me in terms of how it relates to our recovery experience. He said,

The mind is capable of producing more stress than the body can handle.

For those of you who (like I did) experience physical symptoms as part of your PTSD experience, this idea has great importance. Healing can produce stress, which means we need to find a way to alleviate it.

I took up dance as a way to lessen the stress of recovery. What can you do to let off some steam?

It is possible to conquer the past and create the future – the first step is choosing to take the journey.
