Healing Thought of the Week from Portia Nelson
Sunday, March 7th, 2010 • Healing Thought of the Week •
Today I’m adding a short Sunday feature — a small healing thought to get you focused for the upcoming week.:
The Healing Thought of the Week will come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from quotes to ideas, poems, parables and metaphors. Each week’s post will be a small nudge of something to think about, gain strength from, and possibly shake up your PTSD perspective or challenge your thoughts.
If you’d like to get a daily dose of these short pieces, you can sign up for The Healing Thought of the Day: simply go to any of the healing pages of this web site and sign up through the box in the upper right hand corner.
And now, for the Healing Thought of the Week.
There’s a Hole in My Sidewalk is a great little book of poems by Portia Nelson. I love this gem for the way it reminds us of how often and easily we look outside ourselves for what we need to find inside ourselves:
Stop looking at me like that!
Can’t you see how much
I need you to believe
What I am saying
So that I can believe it
Myself?
In healing PTSD we have to find the courage to believe ourselves, our histories, and our present regardless of whether or not anyone else does.
