Survivor Speaks of PTSD Healing: BlogTalk Radio 8/28/09 @ 12:30pm

Due to a last minute glitch in the survivor’s schedule this show has been postponed.

A couple of months ago I received an email from a woman mightily struggling with PTSD. Maureen Phillips was at her wits end, as she puts it,

I suffered with anxiety, fear, severe anger and hypervigilance for 3 1/2 yrs. I tried EMDR for 8 months … with no success.

Soon after our initial contact I received a note she was on her way to seek PTSD relief with a new doctor, Dr. Ronald Ruden, whom she discovered through trauma expert Charles Figley.

To get to Dr. Ruden Maureen had to drive four hours from Massachussetts to Manhattan. I guess the drive was worth it. Last week I received an email from Maureen, here are the highlights:

I have my life back, my peace, my feelings of safety, no more emotional volatility. Tonight will be a week, he reassures me there is no physiological way it can come back. I feel like a new person. I tried desperately to heal, to the extent of trying 3 different anti-depressants….

The healing was almost instantaneous, it was the weirdest thing upon leaving his office, I felt so euphoric, almost as if I were drugged, I have heard ambulances and sirens since, and that’s it, I hear them and no longer feel them. My daughter has gone out every night since, and I have not texted or called her once to see if she was okay. The peace I now have is such a blessing. I feel like I owe this man my life. 

It’s true, everyone’s healing journey is different but the number one question I’m always hearing is, Is it possible to heal PTSD?

The answer is, YES! Maureen is one of many people who make it out from the darkness into the light.
