PTSD Healing Thought of the Day

Some of us PTSDers use art as a way to funnel the memories we’re so trapped by.

For me, it was poetry. Through the language of metaphor and imagery I slowly began to find the words to express my trauma and the pain that followed me around every day.

First, I could only write in third person, from the perspective of a man.

Over the course of 2 years, however, my comfort level evolved so that I was finally able to write in the first person – could finally use the words ‘I’  and ‘me’ – and from my own, female perspective.

On the Art Constellation blog another survivor is on the same quest through drawing and painting. Today, she quoted Thomas Edison and I love the quote so much I stole it for us!

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

PTSD healing is an opportunity for a new life — don’t miss out on it because it is such hard work.
