PTSD Healing Thought of the Day
Friday, June 26th, 2009 • PTSD Healing Thought of the Week •

According to Bessel Van der Kolk,
Despite human capacity to survive and adapt, traumatic experiences can alter people’s psycholgoical, biological and social equilibrium to such a degree that the memory of one particular event comes to taint all other experiences, spoiling appreciation of the present.
There’s the problem in a nutshell. But if we know this, we can act against it.
In giving the problem a name and a definition we take back another ounce of the power trauma steals from us.
The first step to healing is seeing what ails us. Once we do that the journey has begun.
